Casper’s Hot Dogs Site
Oakland, CA

In 2019, McGrath Properties acquired the iconic Casper’s Hot Dog site, one of eight in the Bay Area. The three-parcel, 18,500 square foot site consists of a fourplex and the mid-century modern Casper’s Hot Dog restaurant. This hot dog chain has a long history in the Bay Area and McGrath Properties is happy to share it.
McGrath originally planned to develop the site into high-density residential, incorporating the existing restaurant’s architecture. Given the number of residential units already in Oakland’s construction pipeline, other interim uses are being considered.
One use that continues to surface is keeping Casper’s as the anchor and developing the parking lot into a pop-up event and gathering space. That use works well in urban settings, and nothing like it exists in Oakland.
